A message from executive director Leatha Merculieff
Aang! The Aleut Foundation (TAF) office has been busily working on many new projects
over the last couple of months. The Foundation staff is very excited about the new
website and the interactive application. Many student accounts are being set up
by the students. These new accounts will allow for students to take their application
process into their own hands, most importantly they will be allowed to see the status
of their application and award. This new system will improve communication with
students in regard to their application, award letters and checks. The Foundation
will also be able to communicate directly on a bi-weekly basis with any updates
or new information via a mass e-mail.
Also new this year is the Community Based Vocational program. Sand Point, which
was the first community, completed their 40 and 8 hour hazardous material class
successfully. The class was full and all shareholder and descendants enjoyed the
training provided by Trident Services. King Cove and St. Paul immediately followed.
The Foundation’s mission is to “enhance the life and culture of the Aleut People”
and believes these training are helping to meet the mission.
